I am the Asst. Cubmaster for Pack 3154 from Monticello,IN. Our Pack is charging a $3 entry fee for all non-scout pinewood derby cars(Akela,Sibling, ect.) and putting these funds toward the purchase of the trophies for the following year, this helps reduce cost and/or helps us add something new the following year.
We also do a Flower bulb fundraiser in Feb./Mar. which helped us do a Halloween and Christmas party for scouts and siblings or friends the boys are trying to recruit.DutchMill Bulbs pays out 52% and Touch of Nature Bulb Co. will pay out up to 60% of whatever the pack sells, and this is with no out of pocket up front costs. This is way more than we get from popcorn in the fall! The great part is all items are $5,and when the boys show up at some lady’s door in their uniform selling flowers so affordable, very rarely are they ever turned away without making a sale! Just thought I’d give you a few new ideas to help packs looking to raise extra funds.

I am the Committee Chair/Wolf Den Leader for Pack 444 from Vilonia, AR. We had our pinewood derby this weekend and we had a father who became very upset about two cars which he realized were not legal but were being allowed to race. Our derby expert had a death in the family and was unable to attend so therefore we found some fillins at last minute. These fillins asked for the rules and regulations from district but they were not found or provided therefore we went with what we knew & unfortunately the axle width was forgotten. This parent realized these two illegal cars were doing better than his boys and we came close to having fists thrown between two parents & a scoutmaster. I am just asking for some advice on how such situation should have been handled. Thanks
